Taps are the final flourish and finishing touch to a new bathroom. Once you’ve settled on the size and position of the bath and basin you can choose some beautiful new taps… if you’re undecided between a monoblock mixer or a pair of traditional handwheel taps, here’s our guide to how to choose bathroom taps.
1 – Go for a Different Finish
If you’re designing a brand-new bathroom, why not go for a completely new finish for your bathroom taps? We still love chrome, brushed brass and matt black, but we’re also completely over the moon with this recently added finish, Gunmetal Grey. It’s a good halfway point between shiny chrome and matt black, and definitely adds a soft sheen of sophistication to a new bathroom scheme. This is the standard Forth basin mixer tap, also available in Galway, Soar, Trent and Balina designs.

2 – Choose Wall Mounted Bath Taps
Keep the look super simple and completely contemporary with a very minimal wall-mounted bath mixer tap. This Avon Waterfall Bath Filler adds a supremely contemporary look to a new bathroom and can be paired with all the usual variations, including a Cloakroom Mixer Tap if you’re going to coordinate all taps throughout the home. Keep them consistent throughout with matching Matt Black waste and overflow rings for the finishing touches.

3 – A High Rise Tap for a Tall Basin
Whilst more or less any tap can be paired with a basin that is recessed into the countertop surface, or with a pedestal basin, a basin that ‘sits’ on top of the countertop will need a taller design, called a high-rise tap, to accommodate the height of the basin. This is our Welland Chrome High Rise Basin mixer tap, which stands elegantly alongside a white ceramic countertop basin, such as our Dakota model. Countertop basins can also be paired with wall-mounted taps at a suitable height.

4 – Add a Hand Held Shower to a Standard Bath
Add another option to bath taps by choosing a bath-shower mixer tap set – the handheld shower hose is a useful addition, even if you don’t want to use it as a shower. The handheld shower is also useful for rinsing out the bath, and for helping children in the bath too – perhaps for a quick spruce up instead of a full bath. Our traditional style Nene Brushed Brass set is rather glamorous and looks beautiful when paired up with a classic freestanding bath… there is a matching basin mixer tap as well of course.

5 – Choose a Pair of Focal Point Taps
Double up with a wide 1200mm Wall Hung Vanity and Curved Counter Top Basins – choosing this configuration allows interior enthusiasts to select from a variety of high-rise taps in different finishes. Shown here is our Corsica Tungsten Grey double vanity unit, with the striking addition of Avon Matt Black Waterfall high-rise mixer taps. We feel this is an exceedingly good choice alongside a pair of matching round Mollie Matt Black mirrors – the contrast between curves and angles is very striking. All other configurations are available, including a Freestanding Bath tap for additional oomph!

6 – A Freestanding Bath Shower Mixer for Maximum Attention
A focal point bath is most definitely a style statement, but for extra ‘wow’ points, pair it with a freestanding bath shower mixer set. You may need to spend a little more time on the practicalities of installation and plumbing, but the end result will definitely be worth it. Once again, the contrast of the curvy bath and the super straight angles of the Soar tap set provide superb contrast in this understated contemporary scheme.

7 – A Super Modern Hand Held Shower
If you have already chosen a brushed brass gramed shower screen and basin taps, continue the contemporary brushed brass theme with a matching bath filler plus a neat and compact hand-held shower. We love the smooth hose which always looks clean and new, and the slim shower head which is perfect for hair washing or simply just to rinse down the bath after use or after it has been given a good clean! The levers on our Trent tap design are particularly easy to operate, too.

8 – A Clever Cloakroom Choice
Cloakrooms are often smaller spaces, perhaps squeezed into a utility area or positioned underneath the stairs, so smaller and more compact choices are required. This is our Bermuda Cashmere Pink Cloakroom Basin Vanity, which is just 400mm wide and 200m deep, and is shown here with our very neat Trent Cloakroom Basin Mixer tap – especially scaled down slightly to be more suited to compact settings.

Choosing the right bathroom taps can elevate the style and functionality of your space, whether you’re opting for sleek wall-mounted designs or luxurious freestanding mixers.
