Well… we’ve had a surprising amount of early spring sunshine and it has most definitely shown up some less-than-perfect corners in the bathroom! So this time we’re looking at some tips on how to keep the bathroom clean for spring!
1 – Tiled Wall + Easy to Reach Flooring
Smooth surfaces and no awkward corners are style pointers for an easy-to-clean bathroom. Tiled walls need a good wipe down and a buff with a soft, lint-free cloth for best results. Naturally, keep the bathroom aired as much as possible to let steam and condensation disperse. Wet or damp surfaces will get grubby easily, as you’re wiping up damp dust! Don’t forget fresh air is a great help for a Spring-fresh bathroom. We also like using a steam cleaner every week or two for a super deep clean. Lots of steam cleaners can use fragranced steam detergent, which adds an extra-fresh boost. Or just add a couple of drops of essential oil to the water tank. Shown here, is our Dawn Oak Basin Vanity with Matt Black Stand, which is super easy to keep clean and fresh.

2 – A Sleek, Easy to Clean Mirror Cabinet
Less clutter means less cleaning, so a mirror cabinet will keep surfaces clear of all the little bottles, tubes of toothpaste and bits and bobs which tend to accumulate. In general, our opinion is that if there’s wall space for a mirror, there’s wall space for a slim cabinet! It’s much nicer whisking a cloth and a cleaning spray around a neat and un-cluttered vanity area. Our new Aurora Matt Black mirrored cabinet is made from aluminium so has a smooth, matt finish. Keep fingerprints at bay on the cabinet itself and the mirror by using a soft cloth and glass/mirror spray for a quick polish every day or two.

3 – A Rimless Toilet
One day, all toilets will be designed like this… Our Houston Close-Coupled Toilet with Rimless design and a quick-release seat/lid has all the easy clean advantages to make spring cleaning less of a chore. There are three main advantages here. The close-couple design means the cistern sits on the back of the toilet, so no nasty or awkward gaps to clean, the pan itself is rimless, which again makes it very straightforward to keep clean and hygienic, and lastly, the Soft Close seat unclips quickly so the whole thing can be given a thorough clean, without kneeling and crawling around on the floor.

4 – A Shower Screen with Easy Clean Glass
If you’re wondering how to keep the bathroom clean, one idea to bear in mind is to always choose Easy Clean glass for the shower screen or enclosure. “Easy Clean” means that the glass has a special water-repellent coating that means water streams off very efficiently. Keep the room aired after a hot steamy shower to disperse condensation, and it’s also worth wiping down the shower equipment. If you’re in a hard water area, unscrew the shower head every few weeks for a thorough de-scale. Lay it holes upwards on a soft cloth in the bath, spray with a descaler and let it settle for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Make sure you don’t lose the rubber washer (the little rubber ring) when screwing the head back on!

5 – Design a Streamlined Wet Room
Wet rooms are often described as being easy to maintain and clean – of course that is provided the installation has been beautifully done, with smooth drainage and perfectly aligned tiles. A single shower wet-room panel cuts down on cleaning things and sliding rails too. Depending on your space and budget, it’s worth considering buying a steam cleaner for walls and floors, and at the very least a good quality squeegee is a worthwhile purchase. Once again, air the room after use to let condensation and steam disperse, and finish up with a quick buff for the brassware to keep everything perfect.

6 – Pay Special Attention to Taps and Fittings
Basin, bath taps and shower fittings can be considered fiddly and time-consuming to clean – but the answer is, do it often and it won’t become a chore. Wipe down with a dry cloth as often as you like – it will prevent limescale build-up from water collecting in joints around the base and moving parts. Don’t forget to wipe the water outlet/spout too – that will prevent nasty black mould from accumulating! If you’ve got lever operation taps (as in our Dart Brushed Stainless Steel Mixer tap below), ensure you wipe around the ‘hinge’ section at least once or twice a week.

7 – Wall Hung Cabinets = Super Clean Floors
It’s always worth considering wall-hung cabinets if you’re the sort of cleaner who likes swishing a mop around. There’s literally nowhere for the dust and debris to collect, and it’s also very satisfying to glimpse a very clean and sparkling stretch of floor. We like using fragranced cleaning products, the natural brands have nature-inspired scents that aren’t overpowering and waft a nice, fresh atmosphere around the bathroom. Shown above, is our Omaha Gloss White Wall Hung Basin Drawer Vanity – which is available in several widths, 600mm, also in 1000mm and 800mm.

8 – Go for a Wall Hung Toilet as Well
It makes sense to pair wall-hung furniture with a wall-hung toilet to keep the look consistent throughout the new bathroom. Our Tulsa Rimless Wall Hung Toilet has all the advantages of a rimless design that we’ve already mentioned, as well as being an excellent solution to the question of ‘how to keep the bathroom clean and fresh’. Any busy family home, especially those with young children who may be less than helpful in the tidiness and cleanliness departments should definitely consider wall-hung fittings and furniture to aid in keeping the bathroom clean and fresh!

Conclusion
Every new bathroom looks clean and fresh when it’s first installed, and the trick is to keep it looking that way with regular attention. It doesn’t have to be a whole morning work though! A few minutes here and there will work wonders. In general, wipe up after any ‘standing water’ as quickly as you can – that’s the splashes around the basin and the drips after the shower. In a well-aired bathroom, this water will dry up really quickly, but it can linger in a stuffy, badly aired room. Don’t let dust gather either, as dry dust can become damp dust very quickly. A steam cleaner is a great little investment for keeping shower screens and enclosures, as well as tiled walls and floors beautifully clean.
