How to Keep the Bathroom Warm & Cosy: Heating Tips and Tricks

Now the clocks have gone back, the allure of a hot bath in a warm bathroom in the evening is rather appealing! Here’s our guide to practical heating tips and tricks on how to keep the bathroom warm and cosy…

1 – A Large Electric Towel Rail

Try to allow for a standard central heating radiator, but to boost the warmth and cosiness in the bathroom, include an electric towel radiator as well. An electric model can be used independently of the central heating and will give an extra boost in extremely cold weather, as well as keeping towels and robes warm and aired. Our Santorini Electric Brushed Brass Flat Panel Heated Towel rail adds a warm look to the bathroom as well… but for different colour schemes, it’s also available in Anthracite, Matt Black, Inky Blue, Chrome and White in numerous sizes.

2 – A Towel Rail Next to the Shower

Step out of the shower and envelope yourself immediately in a cosy warm towel that is already waiting for you! You could also warm a fluffy bathmat on the rail before stepping into the shower. It’s the little things that keep the bathroom warm and cosy! It’s also good to remember that a bathroom needs a constant, gentle warm atmosphere rather than fluctuating between icy temperatures and then feeling like a sauna, to avoid the dreaded effects of condensation. Keep the room aired and squeegee/wipe down the shower panels too.

3 – A Rail Next to the Vanity Area

Positioning is important for bathroom heating. In larger bathrooms, it feels nice and cosy to have a radiator or heated towel rail close to the vanity area as well as next to the shower or bath. The advantage of warm face towels is much appreciated too! Here, our Seville Matt Black Designer Flat Panel Heated Towel rail keeps warmed towels to hand next to the vanity area. Also available in Anthracite, Brushed Brass and Chrome and in electric versions for design flexibility.

4 – Co-ordinate the Colour Scheme

Match the towel radiator or rail to your main colour scheme for complete cosy coordination! We’ve recently introduced Inky Blue to our colour options for heating, this is the Santorini Inky Blue Flat Panel Heated towel rail in the 800x450mm size, which is perfect for hand or guest towels, and which will add a stylish flourish to a colour scheme. Electric options are also available in 1000mm and 1200mm height options. If you need to work out the best size/heat output for the bathroom or cloakroom, check with our BTU calculator.

5 – The Classic Choice

Don’t worry about how to keep the bathroom warm and cosy… for a simple and elegant solution to the ‘cold towel’ conundrum, consider the Gibraltar Floor Standing Traditional Chrome Heated Towel Rail. This is the 1200x600mm size option, which is the perfect size to warm up a bath towel or bathrobe. Of course, it also provides a good amount of warmth for the room itself. We love the neat, classic design, along with matching traditional radiator valves.

7 – Looking Elegant with Panelling

Consider a pair of smaller radiators to distribute the heat more evenly in a larger bathroom. If tiling isn’t your choice, consider panelling instead (Use bathroom or kitchen paint to keep the wood protected). Remember, constant warmth at a slightly lower temperature is better than roaring hot temperatures that suddenly drop to zero when the room isn’t being heated. This is our Athens Inky Blue Triple Column Horizontal Traditional Radiator, looking very stylish with matching panelling and wallpaper. In widths from 600mm to 1190mm.
